Why does my dog lick its feet?

Why does my dog get recurrent ear infections?
It is possible that treatments are not completely resolving the infections or the type of medication is not correct for the type of infection. It is also possible there is a growth or foreign material in the canal. If the infection does completely resolve, and then comes back, then there is likely an underlying cause predisposing to an infection like atopy. See the following article: Ear infections
Why is my dog losing hair?
If your pet is itchy and losing hair, the most common reasons are atopic dermatitis, parasites, and infections. If they are not itchy, then other diseases to consider are demodex, hypothyroidism, Cushing's, follicular dysplasia, alopecia X, and seasonal flank alopecia. Dr. Melissa Eisenschenk completed her Bachelor of Science with minors in Animal Science and Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin- River Falls and graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. After vet school, she was in private practice for 4 years in Rochester and Minneapolis, and then returned in 2006 to the University of Minnesota for a dermatology residency and Master’s degree. She passed dermatology board exams in 2009. Dr. Eisenschenk started Pet Dermatology Clinic in 2013. Her family includes a husband and two daughters, a cat, a Lab, a rat, and city chickens.

Dr. Amanda Young, DVM, DACVD

Dr. Amanda Young is a 2011 graduate from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She spent 4 years in a small animal general practice in a suburb of Chicago before completing a year-long internship in specialty dermatology at the University of Illinois. She completed a residency in veterinary dermatology at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center and passed boards in 2019. Amanda enjoys spending time with her husband Nick and their pets (2 cats). Her most passionate hobby is cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team but she also loves spending time outdoors camping, fishing and hiking.
Dr. Marlyse Wehber, DVM
DERMATOLOGY RESIDENT
Dr. Marlyse Wehber attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for her Bachelor of Science in biology and veterinary school. In her second year she had her first class in dermatology and knew that it would be the career path she would follow. After graduation in 2021, she worked as a small animal general practitioner near Minneapolis. Her time in general practice allowed her to solidify her interest in skin, ear and allergies conditions of pets, which ultimately led to her pursuit of a residency in veterinary dermatology at Pet Dermatology Clinic. She is passionate about every aspect of dermatology and has a particular interest in atopic dermatitis, ear disease, and immune-mediated disease. In her free time Dr. Wehber loves outdoor activities such as hiking, boating, paddle boarding, soccer, and skiing. She also enjoys painting and traveling with her husband. She has a dog named Piper.
